Best Drugstore Face Wash for Oily Skin: Cetaphil Daily Cleanser

If you follow me on social media or follow my LTK shop, you probably already know what my favorite facial cleanser is. Having oily skin, I don’t want to or can I use just any product on my skin. I’m pretty picky and once I find something that works, I stick to it.

The facial cleanser I found that works well for my oily skin is the Cetaphil Daily Cleanser.

About the Cetaphil Daily Cleanser

Cetaphil is a brand that I've sat on for many years. I never paid attention to it. Maybe it’s the unassuming packaging or that it’s not one of the cheaply priced brands. What I found is that I was missing out on a brand that focuses on creating skincare products “to care for all types of sensitive skin.”

I can’t recall exactly why I decided to give it a try. It could have been on sale, I had a coupon, or I’d used a travel size of the product and liked it. Whatever it was, I started using this daily cleanser from Cetaphil, which claims

To deep clean while effectively removing dirt, excess oils, and makeup without leaving skin dry or tight
To minimize the appearance of pores without stripping skin of natural moisture
It's designed with a dermatologist-backed blend of niacinamide (vitamin B3), panthenol (vitamin B5), and hydrating glycerin to improve the resilience of sensitive skin and reinforce the skin's moisture barrier
To be gentle on sensitive skin

One of the great things about this facial cleanser is that it can be found at so many different retailers, such as Amazon, Target, Walmart, and CVS, just to name a few. It’s also sold in grocery stores and beauty stores like Ulta.

How I use the Cetaphil Daily Cleanser

This is my go-to facial cleanser. I use it day and night. At night, its main purpose is to remove makeup, dirt, oil, and other things that have built up on my skin throughout the day.

For my nighttime routine, I start by wiping my face with a warm, wet washcloth to get that first layer off my skin. Then I double cleanse with the Cetaphil Daily Cleanser to make sure everything gets off my face and out of my pores. Even with a double cleanse, my face doesn’t ever feel dried out. It still feels like there is moisture in my skin.

In the morning, I like to use the Cetaphil Daily Cleanser to remove any dirt or oil that may have accumulated overnight. I do a single cleanse in the morning, and my skin feels nice and refreshed. I feel like my skin is ready to take on the day.

What I like about the Cetaphil Daily Cleanser

With oily skin, I look for specific things in a facial cleanser, such as specific ingredients or characteristics that are perfect to help balance and control oily skin. This is a gel facial cleanser that foams really well but also has moisturizing properties, so it’s not drying out or robbing my skin of moisture, which makes oily skin produce more oil.

I like that the ingredients it includes are

Glycerin, which works as “a moisturizing agent which draws water into the outer layer of the skin, from deeper levels and from the air”
Niacinamide, also known as vitamin B3, "is clinically proven to aid anti-aging and moisturizing effects”
Masking fragrance so there’s no scent that can irritate my sinuses or my skin

This facial cleanser travels well. I either buy one of the travel sizes or I fill up a small travel container and can take it with me on vacation. Since you only need to use a small amount, I can go a few weeks and not completely using the small travel size.

Since I’ve been using the Cetaphil Daily Cleanser, my skin looks and feels moisturized. I have had fewer breakouts, my skin looks smoother, and my pores are less noticeable. I also get compliments on my skin, whether I’m wearing makeup or not.

It has paired well with the other skincare products I use day and night, which are toner, serum, and moisturizer. I like how versatile it is, meaning I can use it in my morning skin routine, but it also deep cleans enough to remove makeup from my skin.

I’ve been using the Cetaphil Daily Cleanser for a while now and don’t plan to stop. I’ve tried and liked store brand facial cleansers that are pretty similar to this one. I keep going back to Cetaphil even though it costs a few dollars more because I’ve found out how to make it more affordable, but also because it works really well for my skin. For me, if it works and I can afford it, I don’t look to change it.
