My Favorite Drugstore Makeup Powder For My Oily Skin

There are a few makeup products that I can I have been using for years. Many of the makeup products I’ve found and started using were discontinued or became less accessible because they aren’t sold in stores around me. One of the few makeup products that hasn’t happened to and that I continue to use pretty much every day that I wear makeup is from the brand Maybelline.

If you’ve watched one of my makeup videos on Instagram you’ve probably seen me use this product time and time again.

The product I’m talking about is the Maybelline Fit Me Matte & Poreless Powder Foundation which is a powder foundation that gives the skin a poreless-looking finish and claims to give long-lasting shine control for up to 12 hours. This is great for my oily skin.

I’ve been using this powder foundation for several years. I’m not sure when I first bought it or why. I’m guessing it’s because I was using the Maybelline Matte & Poreless liquid foundation and decided to give the powder foundation a try as I wanted to add a powder to my makeup routine to help set my liquid foundation.

I’ve tried several different drugstore setting and foundation powders and none have looked as good on my skin as this one. When I put it on my pores disappear and my skin looks really smooth. I always get compliments when I wear it. This is probably because the secret to this face powder is that “Perlite Mineral technology absorbs oil to mattify skin, while pores virtually disappear thanks to blurring micro-powders.”

The Maybelline Matte & Poreless Powder Foundation can be worn alone or over foundation. I like to wear it three ways
  1. Under my foundation as a powder to help absorb oil
  2. Alone as a light foundation
  3. On top of my foundation as a setting powder. This is the way that I wear the most

I used to apply it using the sponge applicator that it comes with. Over time I started to use a foundation brush to apply it and I like that application even better as I get a better blend on my skin using the brush instead of the sponge.

The coverage this powder foundation provides is medium which makes sense because when I wear it by itself dark spots on my skin are still a little visible.

It comes in translucent and 23 shades, not as many as the corresponding liquid foundation which is a little disappointing. I wear the darkest shade Java (375). This shade is a little more on the neutral side.

I used to wear Nutmeg (365) and Truffle (362) but as I became more knowledgeable about undertones and matching makeup to your skin I realized the undertones of those were off and were too light for my skin. I have darker skin with a more golden to neutral tone.

This Maybelline powder can be found in multiple retailers such as Ulta, CVS, Walmart, Target, Amazon, and even your local grocery store. The downside is the shade that I wear is mostly found online meaning I can’t find it in most stores. I’m not sure why other than darker shades tend to be less accessible than lighter shades.

I don’t let that deter me though because it works so well for me and I like it so much. I plan to continue using the Maybelline Matte & Poreless Powder Foundation as a staple in my oily skin makeup routine.
