Estée Lauder Sheer Foundation Oily Skin Review

Sometimes I don’t want to wear a full face of makeup. Meaning I don’t want to wear foundation every day but I still want to have a fresh and polished look. That’s why I’ve started leaning more towards lighter makeup products such as sheer foundations.

The sheer foundation I’ve been using lately is the Estée Lauder Double Wear Sheer Long-Wear Foundation. I bought it during a sale at Ulta to try it out and over time it became the foundation I wear most of the time.

I have oily skin so I typically wear matte foundations and powders which have ingredients that help to soak up and slow down oil on my skin, so I don’t look shiny and greasy all day. I wasn’t sure this sheer foundation from Estée Lauder would be able to do the same.

To my surprise, I saw it claims to be a matte makeup, that provides a “softly diffused matte finish.” I saw it says it’s for all skin types, which made me skeptical again. Different skin types have different needs, so I don’t see how one product can be for all things.

The first time I applied I wasn’t sure if I should use a brush or a makeup sponge because of how liquidy it is. I opted for the sponge as that’s my preferred foundation application tool. The finish was really nice. My skin looked slightly matte but with a nice glow.

It wears well for several hours, and while the glow does enhance over the day, I don’t end up looking like a nice oil slick. It’s lightweight on my skin, which makes sense with this being a sheer foundation.

Let’s go over all of the claims the Estée Lauder Double Wear Sheer Long-Wear Foundation makes are
  • Weightless, fresh-feeling matte makeup with 12-hour wear
  • Skin looks healthy, natural, authentic
  • Undetectable formula enhances skin with enough coverage to let your natural beauty show
  • Evens skin tone, smooths skin's surface, controls shine
  • Non-creasing, non-poring, color true (12 hours)
  • No caking, no streaking
  • Lightweight, comfortable, forget-it's-there wear
  • Resists perspiration and humidity
  • With SPF and antioxidants, it helps protect against UV rays and pollution
  • Coverage can be built up by repeating the application

I wore this a lot in the summertime because of how lightweight it was and that it had SPF in it. The foundation wore really well, even when I spent time cruising some countries in Europe late last summer and was spending a lot of time out in the sun.

As I mentioned earlier, I prefer to use a makeup sponge for application
  • Typically I follow my regular foundation application routine
  • After washing my face, apply a primer
  • Apply a matte setting powder
  • Use my makeup sponge to apply the foundation
  • Next, apply a light layer of setting powder
  • Finish up with a matte setting spray

I like that the Estée Lauder Double Wear Sheer Long-Wear Foundation works well with all other makeup products I typically use. Also, it’s got a lot of shade options as it covers light to deep shades and also takes into account the undertone of cool, neutral, or warm. My shade is 7W1 - Deep Spice which is an extra deep shade with warm golden undertones.
