The Best Conditioners I’ve Been Using On My Relaxed Hair

Who wants to talk about hair conditioners? Specifically, the ones I’ve been using lately on my relaxed hair.

If you’ve been following me on Instagram you’ve probably seen me sharing the various deep conditioners, rinse-out conditioners, and leave-in conditioners I’ve been using and trying out on my hair.

Let’s jump in and go over what these different hair conditioners are, why and how I use them.

Deep conditioners

Deep conditioning is a key step in my relaxed hair regimen because it keeps my hair moisturized, soft, and strong. Here are the deep conditioners I’ve been using recently:

TGIN Miracle RepaiRx Deep Hydrating Hair Mask

I’ve been using this deep conditioner for a while now, and I have to say it’s been a game-changer for my hair. It’s thick, creamy, and sinks right into my strands, providing intense hydration.

What it claims to do:
  • Smooth and soften the hair
  • Improve shine and manageability
  • Lock in moisture
  • Help repair damage
  • Reduce shedding and breakage

Since I started using the TGIN Miracle RepaiRx Deep Hydrating Hair Mask, my hair has absolutely thrived. I’ve noticed less breakage and shedding, which is a huge win for me. It leaves my hair feeling smooth and deeply nourished, making it one of my go-to deep conditioners.

I typically use this deep conditioner every time that I wash my hair. The only times that I don’t are when I’m traveling because I can’t leave it on that long, or I’m trying out another deep conditioner.

Rinse-out conditioners

These don’t have a steady placement in my relaxed hair regimen. The reason is I like deep conditioners more and feel like rinse-out conditioners help to provide a little extra of something. They can provide some extra moisture or strength if it’s what I feel my hair needs.

I will sometimes use a moisturizing rinse-out conditioner as a pre-shampoo treatment or pre-poo by applying it directly to my hair, or mixing it with some natural oils before applying it.

Other times I’ll use a bond or protein based rinse-out conditioner as a strengthening treatment by applying it between my shampoo and deep conditioning steps.

Right now I’m only using one rinse-out conditioner.

Sally Beauty’s Bondbar Bonding Conditioner

This bonding conditioner is designed to be reparative, strengthening and claims to moisturize and repair the hair and reduce breakage. Because this is a reparative conditioner I use it as a strengthening hair treatment instead of a conditioner.

I don't use this every week. I use it on occasion when I feel like my hair could use a little strengthening, usually when I see some unusual breakage.

This Bondbar conditioner gets applied to my hair after I have finished shampooing but before I deep condition.

While this Bondbar conditioner does strengthen and smooth my hair, I don’t find it very moisturizing. That’s why I treat it more like a repair treatment and always follow up with a hydrating deep conditioner. Despite that I do think it's worth keeping in my rotation.

Leave-in conditioners

Leave-in conditioners are my secret weapon for maintaining moisture, softness, and manageability between washes. I’ve been using leave-ins from two brands: TGIN and Mielle.

TGIN Green Tea Super Moist Leave-In Conditioner

This is my main leave-in conditioner, and I absolutely love it. It’s lightweight, protein-free, and perfect for keeping my hair hydrated.

What it claims to do:
  • Improve manageability
  • Fight frizz
  • Transform dry, brittle strands into soft, smooth, and healthy hair

How I use it:
  • Between washes: When my hair feels dry from sun, wind, or sitting under a heating vent, I apply a bit of this leave-in before bed and wrap my hair. By morning, my hair feels soft, moisturized, and refreshed.
  • On freshly washed hair: I apply this leave-in to my wet hair before blow-drying or roller setting. It gives me smooth, hydrated results every time.

Because it’s protein-free and lightweight, I can use it as often as needed without worrying about buildup or protein overload.

TGIN Butter Cream Daily Moisturizer

This is another leave-in I keep in my stash, but I use it less frequently. It’s a thick, moisturizing cream that works wonders when my hair needs some extra TLC.

What it claims to do:
  • Hydrate dry hair
  • Improve manageability
  • Reduce frizz and flyaways
  • Promote healthy hair growth, shine, and softness

I like to use the TGIN Butter Cream Daily Moisturizer in the winter time. The reason is that's when my relaxed hair needs more moisture to combat the dry air. Also, I like using thicker conditioners in the cooler months.

I mostly use the Butter Cream moisturizer the night after washing my hair or when my hair feels extra dry. A little bit goes a long way, and it sinks into my hair beautifully, leaving it soft and hydrated. However, because it contains protein and is quite thick, I use it sparingly to avoid weighing my hair down.

Mielle Avocado Moisturizing Hair Milk

I’ve used the Mielle Avocado Hair Milk on and off as a daily moisturizer. It has a slightly thick consistency that’s still lightweight, making it a good option for freshly washed hair.

This hair milk contains popular ingredients avocado oil, coconut oil, and shea butter and claims to
  • Encourage length retention
  • Soften and smooth the hair eliminating frizz
  • Improve manageability

I've been using the Mielle Hair Milk for a while now and have a bit of a love/hair relationship with it. Most of the time I've had it in my hair regimen rotation I've been using it on my wet hair. After washing my hair I would apply this to my wet hair as a moisturizer before adding a heat protectant and then drying my hair.

It's worked well for me using it that way. Whether I dried my hair using a blow dryer or a hooded dryer I would get smooth, shiny results. I've used it a few times on my dry hair but eventually stopped because when I apply it to my dry hair, my hair doesn't feel moisturized and can sometimes feel sticky.

Even though I like this Mielle product, I’ve been reaching for the TGIN Green Tea Super Moist Leave In Conditioner more often lately. The reason is because I can use the TGIN moisturizer on my hair when it's wet and when it's dry. The Mielle Hair Milk doesn’t work as well on my dry hair, which limits when I use it.

Mielle White Peony Leave-In Conditioner

At first, I was hesitant to use this leave-in because it’s a liquid. Liquid leave-ins can sometimes make dry hair feel too wet, leading to frizz and breakage. However, I’ve found that this one works well when used only on wet hair.

What it claims to do:
  • Moisturize and condition the hair
  • Smooth the hair shaft
  • Help protect from heat damage

This is another leave-in conditioner that I've mainly used on my wet hair. The reasons are I love that
  • It’s lightweight and doesn’t weigh down my hair
  • It smells amazing
  • It leaves my hair feeling smooth, shiny, and soft
  • It offers some heat protection, which is great if I forget to apply a dedicated heat protectant

While I do like the White Peony Leave-In, and it's been a hair product staple for me for a few years now it only serves one purpose for me—on wet hair. Because of that, I may not repurchase it once I use up my last bottle, especially since the TGIN Green Tea Leave-In works on both my wet and dry hair.

Final thoughts

Conditioners of all kinds play such a crucial role in my relaxed hair routine, and these are the ones that have been working for me lately. Whether it’s a deep conditioner for hydration, a rinse-out treatment for strength, or a leave-in to keep my hair soft and manageable, each conditioner serves its purpose in my relaxed hair regimen.
