This is especially true during the summer. When I’m going out when the warmer temps roll around I like to go bare-faced or wear lighter makeup. Tinted moisturizers are great lighter alternatives for foundation. I’ve tried a few different ones. Some have been better than others.

The biggest issue I’ve had with most of the tinted moisturizers I’ve tried is finding a good shade. There tend to be a limited number of shades for tinted moisturizers. And when you can find a wider range of shades most of the time the shades aren’t deep enough and leave my skin looking slightly ashy. Or the shades are too red and I have a more golden or neutral undertone.

Another issue I’ve had with tinted moisturizers is they tend to be very watery so they are extremely light and do very little to give some evenness to my skin.
So imagine my skepticism when I saw that Black Radiance has a tinted moisturizer. While they are a brand formulated for black and brown skin I wasn’t sure I would find a shade with the right undertone and figured it would be a watery mess.
The Black Radiance Tinted Moisturizer is called the True Complexion Tinted Moisturizer. It has SPF 15 in it, which provides some extra sun protection. Additionally, it claims to be a “lightweight, oil-free beauty balm” that “conceals, primes, smooths, and minimizes shine with blendable color.”
This intrigued me so I decided to purchase the Black Radiance Tinted Moisturizer from Target. Since there wasn’t a shade finder on the Target or Black Radiance site and I’ve never used a face product from this brand before I bought two shades to see which one would work best. The two shades I purchased were Dark to Deep and Deep, the two darkest shades. Can you guess which one was the better match?
It was the Dark to Deep shade.
The directions say to apply the tinted moisturizer with your hands or sponge. I opted for the sponge. I like the type of finish I tend to get from a sponge and it’s a lot cleaner.
My skin looked like my skin but better. No fooling! I also didn’t feel like anything was on my face. The first time I used it I didn’t wear any powder to set it but my face oils didn’t break through until later in the day and it didn’t start to look like it was breaking up until that evening.
I wore the tinted moisturizer a few more times during that first week and set it with powder and I liked it even more than before.
Some key things that I like about the tinted moisturizer are
- It’s enriched with hyaluronic acid
- It has good light to medium coverage
- The SPF protection
- The consistency isn’t watery
I am looking forward to wearing it when the weather gets a lot hotter and I spend more time outside. I’m curious to see how it stands up to heat and a little sweat.
