My Favorite Beauty Products For My Oily Skin

Having oily is like a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, it helps keep my skin looking young and firm. On the other hand, after a few hours, I can start looking shiny and after a few more hours greasy. And don’t talk about makeup, it has slid off my face more times than I want to admit.

Over the years I tried to deal with my oily skin by drying it out, not wearing makeup, and using so many products that could have done more harm than good.

It wasn’t until I hit my 30s that I finally admitted to myself that I had oily skin and needed to find out the best way to care for it. So started to pay close attention to the products I was buying for skincare and makeup.

It’s taken me a few years but I’ve found some products that work for me! Now I haven’t been able to completely get rid of my oily skin, and I kinda don’t want to, but I have been able to work around it and even control some of the oil by using products formulated for oily and don’t work against it.

Noxzema Classic Clean Original Deep Cleansing Cream

Yep, I use Noxzema. It’s an oldie but goody. I’ve used Noxzema off and on through the years and recently brought it back into my skincare regimen. It’s one of the best cleansers to fully clean my pores, and get all of my makeup off my face, all without irritating my skin.

The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

This is a newer addition to my skincare routine. I read some reviews of how this helped other women with oily skin slow down their oil production. I was skeptical but decided to give it a try.

For the first month or so I only used the serum at night. After a few days, I started noticing a difference in my skin. I wasn’t producing oil as quickly and my dark spots and pimple scars were fading quicker than normal. I soon became a believer and now use it in my night and daytime routines.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost City Shield Water Gel Sunscreen SPF 25

I use this for my daily moisturizer. The main two reasons I gave this a try is it’s a hydrating moisturizer with SPF. Even oily skin needs hydration and I’ve found this product provides just enough that my skin doesn’t feel dry in winter weather, doesn’t produce extra oil, or looks greasy.

Formula 10.0.06 Face Masks

I like a good face mask and try to do it at least once a week. With my oily skin, I found that clay masks tend to work better for me. My two favorites are from the Formula 10.0.6 brand - the Pores Be Pure Skin-Clarifying Mask and the Deep Down Detox Ultra Cleansing Mud Mask. Both masks have some good ingredients and don’t cost a lot.

I use one of the masks after I wash my face and before I apply my toner. I believe both masks have contributed to my skin looking clearer, feeling smoother, and looking brighter.

Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Foundation

I swore off of liquid foundations many years ago but recently I started trying liquid foundations again and the Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless is one of the few liquid drugstore foundations that doesn't have my oily skin looking like a greaseball at the end of the day. Also, the coverage is awesome so I don't feel like I need to wear any concealer to cover blemishes.

The shades that I wear are Deep Golden all year and Nutmeg sometimes in the winter.

Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Powder Foundation

No, I’m not repeating myself. This is the powder version of the foundation. I use it underneath and above the liquid foundation in place of a regular translucent powder. I also will sometimes wear it alone if I don’t want to spend too much on my face and am only going out for a few hours. I’ve found that by itself it doesn’t do much. It wears better when paired with the liquid foundation.

The shades that I use are Nutmeg and Mocha.

Urban Decay All-nighter Makeup Setting Spray

I've used both the original and matte versions. I like the original more because I use matte foundations and I think it feels better on my skin. I use the Urban Decay All-nighter Makeup Setting Spray because it keeps my makeup in place for several hours and also helps to keep my facial at bay a lot longer than when I don’t use the setting spray.
