My Easy Video Call Makeup Look

I’m not one to wear a lot of makeup on a daily basis. My makeup look is pretty minimal. That’s a combination of not wanting to spend a lot of time in the morning putting on makeup and not wanting to wear that much on my oily skin.

So I guess it’s not a surprise that when my company told us to work from home due to the current situation I made my makeup look even more minimal.

I knew with all of the multiple video calls we do on a daily basis that I wouldn’t feel comfortable going bare skin but I didn’t feel like wearing a lot of makeup every day as well.

So I decided to pare down the makeup I wear to just 5 items - pressed powder, foundation, eye shadow, mascara, and setting spray. I’m able to quickly apply my makeup and have a made-up look while looking natural. I’ve gotten several compliments from my coworkers on how my skin looks and the fact that I’ve worn makeup every day.

Here’s my makeup routine now that I’m working from home and doing lots of video calls.

Step 1

I no longer wear primer so I start with applying a pressed powder to my skin as a base. I have oily skin so this helps with keeping the oil at bay for a good part of the day. I’ve found that pressing the powder into my skin instead of swiping it on has the best impact.

The powder I’ve been using is the Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Pressed Face Powder Makeup in Nutmeg or Mocha. Whichever one I pull out of my makeup vanity first is the one that I use that day.

Step 2

Now is the time for foundation. I apply this on top of the powder by dotting it on my skin with my fingers. I then spray my face with the Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray and start blending the foundation in with a foundation sponge. Using the spray is another tactic I use to help control my oily skin and keep my foundation intact for longer.

I’ve been switching back and forth between my foundation. Mostly I’ve been using the Fenty Pro Filt'r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation by mixing 440 and 450 together (this is because I have both foundations and don’t think either is a perfect match). The other foundation I may use is the Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless in Nutmeg.

My preferred blending sponge is the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge though I’ve been giving the Sonia Kashuk Makeup Blender Sponge a whirl.

Step 3

After applying my foundation I add a little eye shadow. I’ve mostly been sticking to the pinks and purples in the Black Radiance eye shadow palette I have. That palette looks to have been fazed out so once I’ve used it up I’ll be switching to my Wet n Wild palette.

Step 4

I apply some mascara. I have to say, mascara is the one makeup product I always want to wear. Even on my no makeup days. I’m not tied to just one mascara. I tend to use whatever is on sale when I need to buy some. So right now I’m using the Maybelline Volum' Express The Colossal Mascara.

Step 5

I bring the Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Pressed Face Powder Makeup back out and apply it to my t-zone.

Step 6

I give my face a few spritzes of the Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray to set it all in and I’m done.
