My relaxer prep
This time around I didn’t do anything out of the ordinary for my relaxer prep. How I currently prep my hair now is similar to how I used to prep my hair a few years ago. You can read about my past relaxer prep routine here.I made sure to use a deep cleansing shampoo, use products with a mix of moisture and protein with more emphasis on the moisture. I based my scalp with Jamaican Black Castor Oil and put some sunflower oil on my relaxed hair the night before.
The appointment
My appointment was overall uneventful. My stylist did use a different deep conditioner on my hair because she was out of the other conditioner she used. So far I haven’t noticed any difference in how my hair looks or feels.I did get a little cut this time around. I had some dead-looking ends I wanted to get rid of and even my hair out a bit. I wanted to get some long layers but because the evidence of past breakage is more evident in some areas than others a long layered cut wouldn’t work.
The results
Here’s what my hair looks like the day afterMy hair wasn’t cut the same length all the way around. The front is a little bit shorter than the back. Because of the breakage, I had experienced there it made sense to cut it that way.
My stylist said my scalp looks good and there’s no evidence of additional breakage.
Plans for my next relaxer stretch
For now, it’s business as usual. Continue to baby my hair, focus on moisture, take my hair vitamins, and continue to work on the structure of my regimen. One of my 2020 hair goals is to have my new regimen structure finalized by March 31st but I feel confident it will be done weeks before then.
