My word for 2020 is Elevate. One of the things that I want to Elevate this year is how I interact with you. So I've been working on goals and plans for how to do that and one thing that has come out of that is for me to do a monthly series where I share with you my highlights from the past month and things that I discovered and became a fave.
This is the first installment of that series. I’ll be sharing this list with my email subscribers before I share it on my blog.
One more thing I’ve included links to all of the products I mention in my highlights and faves. Some of the links may be affiliate links which means if you click on it and make a purchase on the site I may make a small commission. It won’t cost you extra though.
Now on to my January highlights and faves!
Highlights
The Mane Choice
I finally tried The Mane Choice products I bought several months ago. The products are from the Ancient Egyptian and Tropical Moringa lines.I recorded a video and shared my first impressions of the three products which you can view below
Home improvements
One of my goals this year is to make some home improvements I’ve been putting off since I bought my house 3 years ago. This month I was able to paint my bedroom and re-organize the furniture. Though I just painted it a different shade of white (SW Greek Villa) it feels like a new room. I give most of the credit to the new furniture placement.Hair goals
After years of not doing this, I set some hair goals for the year. I really want to get my relaxed hair back on track and felt that having some solid and achievable goals would help with that.Fasting
In January my church did corporate fasting for 21 days. I decided to participate to help recharge my relationship with God and also to get focused to achieve some of my personal and career goals this year.My participation in the fast consisted of
- Fasting food from 6 AM - 6 PM Monday through Friday. I would any time of day Saturday and Sunday
- No sweets and no watching YouTube or Netflix for the full 21 days
Deep conditioner experiment
Back in December, I started to question whether or not I was using enough deep conditioner on my hair and what would happen if I used more. So I started a 4-week hair experiment in December that ended in January and I was amazed at the results. I’m not going to spoil it here you’ll have to watch my two videos where I share the results.

Faves
Mielle Mongongo Oil Thermal & Heat Protectant Spray
I love this stuff. So much in fact that when they had their $7 sale in January I bought 5 bottles which probably wasn’t enough. I’ll have to stock up again during another sale. This heat protectant gets my hair smoother than any other I’ve used all the while adding some moisture to my hair.
Later App
This one may be a surprise since I don’t post on Instagram consistently, yet. But when I do post I use the Later App. I had been using their free plan but got a free month to try their Premium Plan. This trial kinda has me hooked. With the Premium Plan, I’ve been able to schedule some of my stories. This has helped me to always have something to view in my stories section, I can schedule multi-photo posts, and I can add multiple links to my images on my link in bio page. If you want to be more active on effort on Instagram with little effort I recommend giving the free plan of Later a try. You can use my affiliate link to sign up.
Hair vitamins
I rediscovered hair vitamins a couple of months ago but I really noticed how much they’ve been helping my hair this month. Right now I’ve been taking Nature Made Biotin vitamins but once that jar is done I’ll be switching back to my favs the Mielle Healthy Hair Adult Vitamins. You can see more about my experience with the Mielle Healthy Hair Adult Vitamins in the video Are These Hair Vitamins Growing My Relaxed Hair?
