4 Ways I’m Updating My Beauty Routine For Spring

When the days start getting warmer and longer, I know it’s time to start rotating to my spring and summer wardrobe. And just like clothing, there are some beauty products that work better for me in the winter than they do in the warmer months and need to be retired when winter ends.

So when the seasons change, I switch up my beauty routine so it’s more appropriate for spring and summer. Here are the ways I’m updating my beauty products for spring.

Use a lighter moisturizer

In the wintertime, my facial skin tends to feel dry. Sometimes so dry that it looks ashy and peels, and I wear heavier moisturizers. When the weather warms up, I’m more likely to sweat and I’ve found that heavier moisturizers feel more uncomfortable on my face. They also have a tendency to break me out.

Both of these moisturizers are light on the skin. Plus, both of them have SPF which is great because when the weather warms up we tend to spend more time outside.

Regularly exfoliate

I exfoliate my facial skin every week no matter the season, but that doesn’t apply to the rest of my skin. At the end of winter, I find that the skin on my heels, knees, and elbows tends to get rough and really dry. The best way for me to bring them back to life and be ready to be exposed to my spring and summer wardrobe is to exfoliate them.

To exfoliate those areas, I either use homemade sugar scrubs or an electric foot callus remover like this one from Amazon. I’ll mix a little bit of white sugar and brown sugar with a few drops of an essential oil and other natural oils.

Other ways to exfoliate are to

Use brighter makeup colors

While I like a natural makeup look and gravitate towards neutral colors like browns and pinks, I want to mix it up a bit and add some pops of color. But in the fall and winter, I somehow revert to wearing darker shades of colors - plums, dark browns, and blacks. But when the days get longer and the weather is warmer, I like to wear lighter and brighter shades of makeup like Juvia's Place The Berries Eyeshadow Palette.

Wear less makeup

In the wintertime I tend to wear more makeup on my face. Mostly because it's harder for me to sweat it off and I feel makeup less on my face in the winter (not sure if others feel the same).

When the weather gets warmer I tend to move from a full coverage foundation to something lighter like a sheer foundation or a tinted foundation. My favorite lighter foundation is the Estée Lauder Double Wear Sheer Long-Wear Foundation. I may also just wear foundation powders like the Maybelline Fit Me Matte & Poreless Foundation. It goes on light but I get good coverage.

Other things I may forego are using concealer to highlight my face, wearing one shade or layer of eyeshadow, and not wear blush
