How I Spent 3 Days In New York City

This fall I got the chance to visit New York City (NYC) for three days and four nights with my mother. While it wasn't my first trip to New York it was my first time being there in over 20 years. I was born in New York, lived on Long Island, and was a little girl when my family moved to North Carolina, so I don't remember much.

The main reason for the trip was to see my sister perform. She's a ballet dancer with the Memphis, TN Ballet and they were doing a week's worth of shows at Joyce Theater. My mom and I decided to take advantage of the trip and do some touristy things like visit Times Square and go to a Broadway show.

Arrival

When we arrived we got settled into the apartment we rented through AirBnB and then set out to explore the neighborhood and find some food. During our exploration, we ventured outside the neighborhood and visited the lobby of the Chrysler Building, Grand Central Station (which has an Apple Store, go figure), and Times Square.

At Times Square we decided to go into Madam Tussauds wax museum and had a blast taking pictures with the figurines.

Day 1

For our first full day, we had bought tickets to the Broadway play Wicked. It was great! The only thing that wasn't great was the weather. It rained the whole day and was pouring when we left the theater so we were soaked and opted to not do anything else and spend the night inside.

Day 2

NYC was experiencing a heatwave with 70-degree weather so we took advantage of it and spent several hours in Central Park walking around and taking in the street performances. We also visited Rockefeller Center (the skating rink looks a lot smaller in person than it does on TV).

I think that day we walked a good 10 miles. In the evening we went to my sister's performance and had dinner afterward at a Thai restaurant.

Day 3

We opted to go to Macy's and Herald Square. We walked by the Empire State Building but didn't go in because we didn't want to pay $34 dollars for a ticket and wait an hour in line.

We later went back to Macy's as they were having an event there with Heidi Klum. It was my only celebrity sighting. Though I like her, I'm not a fan and didn't want to wait in line to take a picture with her. So I opted to take a picture with her posing with someone who did wait in line (I have no idea who that person is). We then finished the night in Times Square walking around and taking pictures.

Me in Times Square

It was a fun three days visiting NYC with my mom and seeing my sister. I enjoyed my time in NYC and want to go back. In fact, we're talking about going during Thanksgiving in the next couple of years to see the parade and Christmas decorations.
