11 Weeks Post Relaxer: Detangling In Sections

I am now 11 weeks post and I've got a good amount of new growth. So to properly detangle, cleanse and condition I need to put my hair in sections. This wash day I put my hair into four two-strand twists and that made everything so much easier.

After sectioning and detangling it was time to apply my pre-poo products. The pre-poo consisted of a hot oil treatment of Jamaican Black Castor Oil and Coconut Oil on my scalp. On my relaxed strands, I used the Eden BodyWorks Jojoba Monoi Deep Conditioner. After applying everything I put on my heating cap for about an hour.

After rinsing out my pre-poo products I cleansed with a macadamia oil shampoo.

Next came a green tea rinse applied only to my scalp and I conditioned with the last of my keratin oil conditioner and some of the coconut milk conditioner to give my hair some protein.

Afterward, my hair felt moisturized and not dry like I feared after using the coconut milk conditioner which is a bit heavy on the protein.

After t-shirt drying for a couple of hours I applied Nothing But Melted Shea Butter Leave-In Conditioner and sealed with sunflower oil (yep I haven't used it all yet).

Now it was time to decide how I wanted to finish drying. Having no desire to air-dry I put my hair into three braids to stretch my new growth and sat under my hooded dryer for about 40 minutes. I also wore the braids to bed and ended up with a mini braid out the next day which made a nice textured low bun.

Do you section your hair to detangle it?

  1. Great wash day. I haven't used any of the ogx products, they seem to work quite well for you.

  3. Nice bun. I like roller setting my hair since it stretches my new growth and helps my hair dry smoothly.

    1. I've tried roller setting a t home, but my hair takes so long to dry that they don't come out right. What products do you use when you do a roller set?

  4. I usually like to air dry in braids as well because they stretch my roots and I have a cute hairstyle the next day. I've never tried sunflower oil, what are some of its benefits? Happy you had a great Wash Day.

    1. Thanks for visiting! Sunflower oil has ceramides and helps with increasing manageability and shine. Here's a link to a post I did on sunflower oil http://growingrelaxedhair.blogspot.com/2014/07/the-power-of-sunflower-30-day-ceramide.html

  5. Your low bun is beautiful! I love the way that just a little texture turns a casual style into something extra special!

I like to dry my hair in bantu knots.

Thanks for sharing your #washdayexperience chica!

    1. Thanks KLP. I've pretty much become an expert at the low bun as I seem to be sporting it quite often ;)

  6. Yur hair looks really shiny. I'm more of an air dry girl, if my hair just sees a blowdryer it starts splitting
