5 Weeks Post Relaxer: How I Achieved Smoother Hair

It's time for another wash day post. And this week I participated in the third Wash Day Experience theme of Smooth Sailing: share your methods for achieving your smoothest results. I'm really excited about the theme this week because I can't wait to see the tips and tricks from other posters.

To participate in the Smooth Sailing theme I used the last of my Thermafuse Smooth Balance Shampoo and Conditioner, t-shirt dried, did a hot oil treatment, incorporated ceramides, and used Thermafuse HeatSmart Serum to seal. I also broke out the Caruso Steam Rollers (gasp!). You'll have to continue reading to see the results.

Pre-poo

As per my regimen, I started with a pre-poo. There's no way I could get a smooth look without it. Like last week, I did a hot oil treatment, but this time I only used sunflower oil which is a ceramide oil. With my hair in five sections, I applied the oil first, then Eden BodyWorks Jojoba Monoi Deep Conditioner, and put my on Hot Head Conditioning Cap for 30 minutes. Deep conditioning, especially with the heat, as my pre-poo has been very beneficial for my hair. It also cuts done on the getting in and out of the shower that occurs when deep conditioning after cleansing.

Cleanser

I used the last of my Thermafuse Smooth Balance Shampoo. My hair likes this shampoo as it clarifies, moisturizes, and smooths my strands without them feeling stripped. While I really like this shampoo, it's not budget-friendly for me (it runs about $25+ for 10 oz), so I'll be looking for something that provides similar results, but costs less.

Condition

For this step, I was supposed to do a green tea rinse and then apply Thermafuse Smooth Balance Conditioner on top, but despite the green tea being right in front of me, I went right for the conditioner. With a shrug of my shoulders, I finished applying the conditioner and left it on for about five minutes. Next, I did the green tea rinse and applied L'Oreal Advanced Haircare Total Repair 5 Restoring Conditioner since green tea has a slight drying effect on my hair.

Leave in and sealant

After rinsing I t-shirt dried for about 30 minutes and then applied the Eden BodyWorks Coconut Shea Leave In Conditioner that I mixed with Thermafuse HeatSmart Serum.

Dry

It was late in the evening when I started washing, so by the time I was done it was past my bedtime and my hair was nowhere near dry. Let me tell you, I was so glad I had a hooded dryer. I plugged that thing in and sat under it for about an hour, cross-wrapped my hair, and went to bed. In the morning my strands looked and felt smooth and moisturized.

Styled

I don't think I've ever included this step in a wash day post before, but for some reason, I wanted to add some curl to my ends and wear my hair out. I broke out my Caruso Steam Rollers and put in six of them, but didn't roll them up to my scalp.

After about 10 minutes, I took them down and had some soft curls on my ends. The pictures, unfortunately, don't do my hair justice. My hair looked really good. So good that I had a few people say I looked like I had gotten a weave - one of those people was my mother!

What tools and/or products do you use to achieve a smooth look?

    1. Thanks for reading. The Caruso rollers are great. I've been using them since middle school. They're easy to use and my hair loves the steam.
