I am about 10 1/2 weeks post my April relaxer touch up and boy do some areas of my head have some new growth. I don't plan on getting a relaxer until July or August.
After not washing for two weeks and having over 10 weeks of new growth how did my wash day go? Here's a recap.

Pre-poo: I changed this up and did a hot oil treatment that I left on for about an hour. This was my own concoction of sunflower oil, coconut oil, olive oil, green tea, and the Design Essentials Stimulations Conditioner.
I'm really excited about this mix as it contains sunflower oil which is a ceramide. And I'm participating in a 30 Day Ceramide Challenge. The oil really helped me as I detangled. It gave me lots of slip and loosened up tangles that had formed. After rinsing this out, my hair felt wonderful! This will be the formula for my pre-poo mix going forward.
Cleanse: I used the Eden BodyWorks Jojoba Monoi Moisturizing Shampoo. This also made my hair feel great. It felt smooth, soft, and moisturized.
Green tea rinse: I am incorporating these into my wash day regimen to help with the shedding. This went well, except I forgot the tea in the kitchen and how to get out of the shower to get it (sigh). I had brewed the tea a couple of days before and was keeping it in the fridge till I was ready to use it.
Deep condition: Once again I went back to Eden BodyWorks and used the Jojoba Monoi Deep Conditioner. I squeezed out the excess water and towel blotted, before applying and wore a shower cap for 30 minutes. My wet hair is now responding positively to the conditioner. As mentioned in my review, the secret is to sop up a lot of the excess water so my strands aren't full of water and are blocking the deep conditioner from sinking in. Still no issues.
Express condition: I had stopped doing this, but my hair seemed to love it. I used the Thermafuse HeatSmart Condition. The great thing about this is it's moisturizing but also has some protein. Once again, Thermafuse didn't disappoint.
T-shirt dried: Did this for 30 minutes.
Leave-ins: Used my Pantene Pro-V Moisture Mist Detangler and Eden BodyWorks Coconut Shea Leave-in Conditioner then sealed with Sunflower Oil and air-dried for a couple of hours then I had to sit under my hooded dryer for about an hour. I was going out in the evening and didn't want to go out with wet hair.
Final result: Soft, strong hair! Still had some shedding, but it was within normal ranges. We'll see how my hair does throughout the week.
What products do you use on wash day to keep your hair soft?
Ohhh sunflower oil! I love that idea. Your pre-poo mix seems super moisturizing. How did your hair feel after the green tea rinse?

My pre-poo mix is super moisturizing. I wish I'd started using it sooner. It's one of the few things that my relaxed hair and new growth both like. The green tea rinse was good. My hair didn't feel hard or anything and I noticed less shedding than my previous wash.
DeleteI love hot oil treatments, it make it super easy to detangle the hair. Is the Jojoba Monoi Deep Conditioner any good?
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading! The Jojoba Monoi Deep Conditioner is good though it took a few uses for my hair to like it. The main issue I have with it is there's not a lot of slip. I recently posted a review for the conditioner http://growingrelaxedhair.blogspot.com/2014/06/product-review-eden-bodyworks-jojoba.html
DeleteGreat post, I haven't done a hot oil treatments in years, maybe I should start back, that for the inspiration! HHJ!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great wash day!
