Wash Day: 7 1/2 Weeks Post 4/19 Relaxer Touch-up

I just got back from a missions trip to the Dominican Republic and couldn't wait to wash my relaxed hair. Due to being outside for several hours in the heat and sunshine, riding in vans with the window open, and hitting the beach for a few hours, my hair took a bit of a beating. I'll be writing a post soon to share how I prepared my hair and maintained it while I was in the Dominican Republic.

Now on to the wash day! Oh and sorry, I got lazy and didn't take any pictures of the results.

I had done a deep condition co-wash and air dry while in the Dominican Republic two days before my full wash day so my hair was pretty much detangled and I didn't spend much time on this step. I did run my finger through my hair using my organic virgin coconut oil and water mix (2:1 ratio).

I braided my hair into four braids and then pre-pooed/deep conditioned with Eden BodyWorks Jojoba Monoi Deep Conditioner with a shower cap and no heat for about 2 hours. After rinsing my relaxed hair in the warm water my hair once again felt soft getting this wash day off to a good start.

I then cleansed my scalp with SheaMoisture African Black Soap Deep Cleansing Shampoo using an applicator bottle. I felt I needed to clarify my scalp and hair after my time in the Dominican Republic.

Conditioned for about 5 minutes with a mix of Design Essentials Stimulations Super Moisturizing Conditioner and Hollywood Beauty Olive Cholesterol. I felt I needed to add a burst of protein to this wash. The Olive Cholesterol is a freebie I got when I bought another product.

I t-shirt dried for an hour and let my hair air dry in four braids. Before going to bed I

The results were no breakage like the last time, but I did have more shedding which didn't have me worried. My hair feels good and healthy. All in all, this was a very good wash day.

When you go on vacation do you do a wash day soon after you get back?

  1. I ALWAYS wash my hair as soon as I get back from holiday! Maybe it's just me, but I no matter where I go, I feel like my hair can only get a proper #washdayexperience in the comfort of my own home.

I can't wait to hear more about your vacay hair care routine chica!

    1. So true. Even when I visit my parents and stay in their house I don't feel like I'm properly washing my hair. So I end up washing my hair either the day I get back or the day after.

      Thanks for reading KLP!
